The ACT Arts Centre, in Maple Ridge, BC, is a cultural hub for the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, boasting theatres, an art gallery and arts programs. Operated by the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts Council, The ACT Arts Centre underwent a brand refresh in 2015 and needed a new website. Their existing website was difficult to update and not mobile-friendly, while the percentage of visitors using either a tablet or smartphone had grown to over 40%. Their new website needed to be easy to use and navigate, with a more accessible, flexible and consistent design.

The new website is designed for a broad range of patrons, young and old, and to work beautifully across devices. The design reflects the organization’s quality programming, relevance and celebrated reputation. The Arts Council also sought to more effectively highlight its broad range of programming and facilities.

The back-end of the site uses a number of tools to facilitate easy content access and creation, balancing flexibility with robustness to minimize the potential for breakage. I also incorporated directions and style tips into the editing interface as much as possible to make it easier for current and future site management and to ensure consistency.
