Rail for the Valley campaign buttons

Rail for the Valley campaign buttons

I was approached by John Buker about designing buttons for the Rail for the Valley campaign, a grassroots movement based in the Fraser Valley that is working toward bringing back passenger rail in the area. As a passionate campaign supporter and (at the time) a resident of the area, I wanted to contribute in some way through design. The resulting buttons have been popular and have helped spread the campaign by word of mouth. Proof of their success to me was the discussion started by a fellow bus passenger who noticed the campaign buttons on my person. Designed to be trendy and clever while referencing the area's rail history, and at a deliberately popular size of about 1 inch in diameter, the pieces fit into the current revival of button collection. Two choices are offered for wearers who can sport them in combination with other buttons. (Train illustration by Lydia, Dreamindustri.com, for Rail for the Valley.)

My letters to the editor on this issue have been published in the Surrey Leader, Surrey Now, Langley Times and Langley Advance.
