Eye candy for a "total design geek"
This lunch blog is a little later than lunch hour because I keep getting distracted by articles.
While scoping out design firms I'd be interested in working for, I thought about the kind of design I want to be doing and who I want to do it for. To that end, here's a collection of websites (I'll probably add some more later) that speak to the kinds of visual languages — and variety of visual languages — that influence me or that I would like to pursue in my work where appropriate. It's also the kind of high calibre design I want to see out of myself sooner rather than later. If I can find myself in a studio that designs with this modern aesthetic, I'd be most happy. I've already identified a few. So without further ado...

I was having an iChat conversation with a friend when I came upon a site with a similar aesthetic and layout to Wired, to which I reacted with: "i love love love love love wide, griddy 3-column things with boxes and large Georgia!!!" After which Alex said, "youre a total design geek".

I am an Interactive Designer in Vancouver, BC, and a graduate of the Communication Design program at the Emily Carr Institute. I enjoy tea, chocolate and European desserts. My passions here and elsewhere include the local eating lifestyle, environment and sustainability issues, public transit, health and design. You see? They're all related.

Nothing wrong with being a design geek :) I actually know another graduate from Emily Carr, very cute by the way!!! Heheheh... but I digress.
I liked the fourth site a lot. Same with fashion - you can't go wrong with black

Hehe, I wasn't suggesting there was ;) I love the name.
There are many of us, and I don't know everyone of course, but you'll have to tell me who it is! (Don't worry, I won't publish it.)
Yeah, haha, that's true to some extent -- you still have to DO black right on the web.
