The assignment required the inclusion of a type of vessel and to draw the subject twice. It addresses a feeling of dislocation of the self from self-awareness. It was a very personal experience that also involved feeling not like myself as I became aware of myself while speaking or otherwise behaving with other people. This is reinforced by a very personal cropped view that banishes identity by excluding my face. The mask suggests a feeling of hiding, or otherwise censoring, oneself, or losing a feeling of identity. Graphite, 26" x 11".

About

Erika photo

I am a communication designer in Vancouver, BC. I love designing and developing websites, and I occasionally design for print. I am the lead designer at the David Suzuki Foundation where I work on a variety of projects to engage and increase supporters, and to communicate the importance of living within the limits of nature. Yes, I'm a nerd and a treehugger.
